What We Do

“Stem2Stern is a program of youth development where elementary and high school students work in a collaborative setting to create a variety of construction projects. While the list of projects is continually expanding (Muskoka chairs, cornhole game boards, tool boxes, paddles, charcuterie boards, beach chairs, and cutting boards) the fan favourite is undoubtedly the building, and water launch, of the Bevin’s Skiff – a 12’ long wooden rowboat – as well as the carving of a pair of white pine oars that will be used to row the completed vessel across a local lake. Throughout the weeklong workshop, we focus on both the utility and the beauty of the boats.

Stem2Stern is the ultimate STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, math) experience during which students will develop the hard skills of tool usage, as well as the soft skills of communication, collaboration, teamwork, leadership, resiliency, and problem solving. Students will also be introduced to the trades as a viable career option, while at the same time, encouraging them to move outdoors, away from their screens. As the new stewards of our natural environment, we embrace life on the water as a recreational pastime, in addition to considering our role in protecting nature.”
